JAMSHEDPUR – The serene premises of Bodhi Mandir in Sakchi buzzed with spiritual fervor on Sunday as Health Minister of Jharkhand, Banna Gupta, partook in the venerated Cheevar Dan ritual of the Buddhist community. The ritual, held under the aegis of the Bodhi Society, holds a rich tapestry of historical and spiritual significance, tracing back to the era of Lord Buddha.
Gupta, expressing his joy and privilege, mentioned how he felt elated to immerse in such a profound tradition and receive the blessings of the priests present.
As elucidated by the International Buddhist Confederation, the ritual, akin to the Kathina Cheevar Dana, marks the culmination of Varsha Vasa, a three-month monastic retreat which concludes as the monsoon season ends, usually around October or November.
The Bodhi Society, spearheading the event, continues to play a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Buddhist traditions in the steel city.
The Health Minister’s presence not only honored the ritual but also emphasized the government’s respect and support for the diverse cultural heritage that thrives in Jharkhand.
