Jharkhand sets stage for Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023 with trophy unveiling in Ranchi. State CM Hemant Soren and hockey officials grace the occasion.
RANCHI – In an event that marks a significant milestone for sports in the state, Chief Minister Hemant Soren unveiled the trophy and launched the mascot for the upcoming Women’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2023.
The momentous ceremony took place at Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Marang Gomke.
In a vibrant affair, the mascot for the event was revealed to be an elephant named Juhi. This launch was attended by a notable roster of dignitaries, including FIH President Dato Tayyab Ikram, Hockey India President Padmashri Dr. Dilip Tirkey, and Hockey India General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh among others.
World Hockey Federation President Tayyab Ikram lauded the state’s commitment to sports, emphasizing that the event will echo far and wide across Jharkhand. “This is just the beginning,” he added.
The significance of Jharkhand in the national sports landscape also came to light. Chief Minister Hemant Soren stated that Jharkhand should be an essential part of any Indian sports team, reflecting the state’s burgeoning reputation in the athletic arena.
Six of Asia’s top teams, including host India, Japan, China, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand, are gearing up to participate in this landmark event. It’s the first time the Champions Trophy is being held in India, and appropriately, the venue is Jharkhand.
Hockey India General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for enabling such a colossal event to be held in Jharkhand, signaling the state’s growing prominence in international sports.
