Tata Steel Spearheads Sustainability Drive with India Environment Meet 2023

Jamshedpur’s Elite Convene at Kudy Mahanty Auditorium for High-Impact Environmental Advocacy

Tata Steel’s India Environment Meet 2023 engaged students and corporate leaders in sustainability discussions in Jamshedpur.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a laudable initiative to champion the cause of environmental conservation, Tata Steel Saturday hosted the India Environment Meet 2023 at the city’s Kudy Mahanty Auditorium.

Rajiv Mangal, the company’s Vice President for Safety, Health & Sustainability, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

The ceremonial inaugural lamp was lit by Jitnedra Prasad Singh, Regional Officer of the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board.

The program found an institutional ally in the Millennium Institute of Energy & Environment Management, thereby fortifying the event’s commitment to ecological harmony.

Mangal underscored the pivotal role the youth can play in environmental sustainability.

He urged the adoption of the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra as not just a slogan but a necessary action plan for a greener future.

A primary focus of the meet was to enlighten school children about the complexities of waste management and the overarching need for environmental preservation.

Interactive sessions aimed to increase awareness about environmental concerns that transcend geographical boundaries were the highlight of the day.

The event drew massive participation from the city’s young minds.

A whopping 250 students from 17 schools competed in a variety of contests—ranging from debates and essays to quizzes and skits—to win the crowd and the judges alike.

Sacred Heart Convent School seized the Over-all Best School title, while individual accolades were numerous and diverse.

From poster-making to debate, the children displayed exceptional ingenuity and talent.

In a nod to sustainability, the organizers ditched traditional materials in favor of eco-friendly alternatives like seed paper name tags and seed-based pencils.

Among the dignitaries present were Surajit Sinha, Chief Agglomerates, Tata Steel; Pradeep Chaudhary, Chief Sinter Plant, Tata Steel; and Indrajit Paul, Chief Pellet Plant, Tata Steel.
