JSUTU Urges Accurate Count of Urdu Learning Students

Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers’ Union seeks comprehensive data on students learning Urdu in Jharkhand schools, emphasizing the importance of educational support for minority students.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand State Urdu Teachers’ Union (JSUTU) has sounded the alarm on a key issue affecting minority students, particularly those learning Urdu.

The union has emphasized the urgency of the matter to the Education Department, as highlighted by state spokesperson Shahzad Anwar.

Both the Director of Primary Education for the Government of Jharkhand and the Secretary of the School Education and Literacy Department received copies of a memorandum from JSUTU. The memo underscores the necessity for an accurate and sincere count of students learning Urdu to ensure they receive adequate educational support.

Amin Ahmad, the Provincial Secretary of JSUTU, has noted that students fluent in Urdu attend schools where the Urdu unit is not recognized.

To address this, the union has requested the establishment of a special category for such schools and the creation of an Urdu section within them.

The union also raised concerns about inconsistencies in data reporting.

For instance, the number of students learning Urdu in certain schools where the Urdu unit is recognized was listed as "zero."

This, according to Amin Ahmad, overlooks children fluent in Urdu who are enrolled despite the language not being part of the curriculum.

JSUTU has insisted on the inclusion of these students in the overall count of those studying Urdu.

The union has already urged the district education authorities to compile a list of students learning Urdu in a specified manner.

Amin Ahmad and Md. Fakhruddin have urged the Additional Secretary and other Education Department officials that the appropriate steps be taken promptly upon awareness of the issue.
