“Yuva” Organizes Workshop in Ranchi to Address Gender-Based Violence

State-level workshop by "Yuva" seeks to strengthen the fight against gender-based violence in Jharkhand, engaging both government and non-government organizations.

RANCHI – A state-level workshop was organized in Ranchi today under the joint auspices of social organization "YUVA" (Youth Unity for Voluntary Action), Women Gaining Ground Consortium, and Kriya.

This event aimed to address gender-based violence in Jharkhand by leveraging the intervention of various governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The workshop, held at Hotel Genista Ranchi, saw the participation of distinguished guests such as Kajal Yadav, Chairperson, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and Sunil Kumar Verma, Member, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

.Barnali Chakraborty, Secretary of Youth, elaborated the purpose of this event.

Babita Sinha, Program Manager, Kriya, highlighted the efforts of Women Gaining Ground to enhance the political participation of girls, young women, and differently-abled women globally.

In India, the consortium is active in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, where it works to eliminate gender-based violence through robust advocacy with government and non-government organizations.

Shampa Sen Gupta, Director, SDRC Kolkata, underscored the importance of the active involvement of women, girls, and differently-abled women in preventing violence.

Panel discussions during the workshop focused on how various entities can strengthen their efforts to prevent gender-based violence.

Kajal Yadav stressed the need for better and regular implementation of policies from the State Child Rights Protection Commission.

Other participants shared their work and insights on various aspects of violence prevention, including advocacy for the mentally challenged, efforts to combat violence in relationships, and initiatives to prevent violence at the panchayat and block levels.

Anjana Devgam coordinated the workshop, which saw participation from 53 representatives of government and non-government organizations.

Secretary .Barnali Chakraborty stated that a demand letter based on the issues raised during the workshop will be prepared and presented to the Chief Minister and other concerned parties as a memorandum.
