VHP and Bajrang Dal Condemn Mewat Incident, Burn Effigies in Protest in Jamshedpur

VHP and Bajrang Dal protest against the Mewat incident, burning effigies of Mewat trouble-makers in Jamshedpur.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal, two Hindu nationalist organizations, have expressed their strong condemnation of the recent Mewat incident in Haryana.

Chandrika Bhagat, the Mahanagar Secretary of the VHP, and Munna Dubey, the Convenor of Bajrang Dal, jointly stated that the attack on the Hindu community who were on a pilgrimage to worship Lord Shiva during the holy month of Shravan was deeply regrettable.

On August 2, in response to the incident, effigies representing the trouble-makers were set ablaze in district centers across Jharkhand as a form of protest.

The VHP’s Mahanagar Secretary Chandrika Bhagat explained that every year on a Monday in Shravan, devotees would visit five temples from the era of the Mahabharata located within Mewat to seek blessings from Lord Shankar.

Around 20-25 thousand Hindu devotees had reportedly arrived for the pilgrimage.

The Minister narrated that the attackers had assaulted the devotees with bullets, petrol bombs, and stones, setting fire to numerous vehicles and homes.

This act, Bhagat noted, was a profound attack on the Hindu faith and highlighted the fundamentalist mentality of the attackers.

He added that this fundamentalist mentality had also been reflected in the disrespect of the Indian tricolor during a recent religious procession in various districts of Jharkhand, including Palamu.
