No Non-Vegetarian Food Allowed in Student Lunches in Jamshedpur Schools
Jamshedpur schools have been issued a directive forbidding students from bringing non-vegetarian food in their lunch, following a contentious event sparking debates.
JAMSHEDPUR – Schools across Jamshedpur, both public and private, have mandated that students can no longer bring non-vegetarian food to school.
The directive was issued on Tuesday by Nishu Kumari, the District Education Superintendent for East Singhbhum district. According to the new guidelines, children should not pack any non-vegetarian food in their school lunches.
This decision follows a controversial incident where a Class IV student from a city private school shared non-vegetarian food from her lunch box with a friend.
The friend’s family, who were abstaining from meat during the Sawan month, demanded punishment for the girl who had shared the non-vegetarian meal.
The situation escalated when the parents withdrew their child from the school, leading to widespread media coverage.
In order to better understand the situation, District Education Superintendent Nishu Kumari had conducted a meeting with the school administration. The concerned school authorities had defended the pupils, stating that the sharing of non-vegetarian food was due to their age and lack of understanding.
