Jamshedpur – The District Traffic and Road Safety Committee convened a crucial meeting today under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar.

The primary agenda was to address the alarming rise in road accidents and improve road safety within the district.

During the meeting, the committee discussed a range of strategies aimed at enhancing road safety and minimizing accidents.

It was revealed that driving at uncontrolled speed and driving in the wrong direction were the main reasons for most accidents on the National Highway.

In the month of May, there were 35 road accidents, resulting in 20 fatalities and 17 injuries.

The District Transport Officer directed the speedy payment of compensation to the victim families.

The committee also took action to suspend 401 driving licenses in May, based on the recommendation of Traffic DSP.

A significant amount of Rs 39,15,350 was collected in fines from those violating traffic rules. Progress on the installation of traffic signals at seven urban locations was reviewed, and the education department was instructed to conduct awareness campaigns in schools regarding the use of two-wheelers by children below 18 years of age.

Furthermore, instructions were given to install hoardings in accident-prone areas identified in the district.

The Deputy Development Commissioner emphasized the formation of Road Safety Clubs in schools and the organization of regular activities such as painting and writing competitions, as well as the distribution of pamphlets, to raise awareness about road safety.

The committee also emphasized continuous raid action against the illegal sale of liquor in line hotels and dhabas to prevent road accidents caused by drunk driving.

Statistics on recent road accidents were presented during the meeting, highlighting the need for immediate action.

The committee reviewed accident-prone areas, identified common causes of accidents, and explored potential solutions to mitigate risks effectively.

The Deputy Development Commissioner stressed the urgency of collaborative efforts and urged all stakeholders to actively contribute to the implementation of the proposed measures.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the initiatives were emphasized to assess their effectiveness and make necessary improvements.
