A total of 164 road accidents in the last six months in Jamshedpur resulted in 99 deaths, questioning the efficiency of the traffic system.

JAMSHEDPUR – Despite its moniker as the ‘Mini Mumbai’, Jamshedpur’s traffic system faces serious scrutiny.

While roads within company areas are well-maintained, the city’s non-company sectors suffer from poor road conditions, contributing to a high rate of accidents.

Mounting Accident Tally and Concerns

Media reports reveal that over the last six months, the city and its surrounding areas experienced 164 road accidents.

These incidents resulted in 99 deaths and left 92 people severely injured.

Dy SP Animesh Gupta.

The situation raises critical questions about the effectiveness of traffic regulation and safety measures deployed by the local police and transport departments.

The condition of roads in non-company areas has especially come under fire, and there seems to be no clear authority taking responsibility for their maintenance.

Rising Monthly Accident Statistics

The severity of the situation is further emphasized by a month-by-month breakdown of the accidents.

Starting from January, there has been a steady increase in accidents, reaching a peak of 35 in May.

Efforts to Curb Accidents

In response to the rising accidents, DSP Animesh Gupta confirmed that the department has identified danger zones and is taking measures like installing speed breakers and sign boards.

He also appealed to the public, particularly the youth, to abide by traffic rules.

Despite the advanced facilities available with the Jamshedpur Traffic Police, the number of road accidents remains high.

DSP Animesh Gupta urged the public to follow traffic rules, avoid drunk driving and prioritize safe travel as everyone’s responsibility.
