RANCHI – Preparations are well underway for the much-anticipated Jagannath Rath Yatra, or the chariot festival, in Ranchi.

The fair, which carries great religious and historical significance, is set to start on June 20th and culminate with the Rath Mela on June 29th.

On June 19th, just a day before the main event at the famous Jagannathpur Temple in Dhurwa, Ranchi, rituals including the “eye donation” ceremony will take place at 4 pm.

On the following day, devotees will be allowed to pay their respects from as early as 5 am.

The public worship for the Rath Yatra is scheduled for 2 pm, with the chariot procession commencing at 4.30 pm.

Later, at 6.30 pm, worship will be conducted for Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra at Mausi Bari.

A fair is organized in the area from the beginning of the Rath Yatra until the Ghurti Rath Yatra. Many stalls offering a variety of attractions such as swings, ‘well of death’ rides, food stalls, and decorative items are being set up to engage the attendees.

The Jagannathpur Mela has been a cherished tradition in Ranchi for approximately three and a half centuries.

The fair is not only an opportunity for religious observance but also serves as a platform promoting social beliefs.

The event draws people from various districts of Jharkhand.

Additionally, it has long been a focal point for visitors from the neighboring states of Bihar and Bengal, maintaining its reputation as an attractive cultural event.
