AITUC Protests Against Tata Blue Scope Steel for Workers’ Rights
All India Trade Union Congress protests against Tata Blue Scope Steel, alleging unfair treatment and exploitation of workers. Threatens intensified agitation if unaddressed.
Jamshedpur – All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) led a protest against Tata Blue Scope Steel Company, voicing their concerns over the alleged exploitation of workers by the company. The union demanded that the rights of the workers be upheld.
Despite the intense heat, AITUC leaders and workers rallied at the company’s gate to assert their rights and seek redressal for the unfair treatment meted out to contract workers.
According to the protestors, Signode India, a contractor under BlueScope Company Management, is exploiting these contract workers, leading to the initiation of this movement.
AITUC’s District Secretary, Ambuj Thakur, stated that the contractor was responsible for the continuous exploitation of labourers, including overworking female labourers without due compensation.
He claimed that the contractor deposited workers’ Provident Fund (PF) in the name of other contract companies.
He said that when the workers raised queries, they were unjustly relieved of their duties.
Despite complaints made to the Deputy Labour Commissioner, company management representatives failed to attend meetings for discussion, prompting the demonstration at the company gate.
Thakur warned of an intensified agitation if the company does not engage in problem-solving dialogues by the next meeting.
