Khairbani Villagers Oppose Construction of Garbage Plant and Motor Training School
Khairbani residents resist district administration’s projects: a motor training school and garbage plant. They argue the projects lack gram sabha approval and are thus illegal.
JAMSHEDPUR – Plans to establish a motor training school and a garbage plant in Khairwani by the district administration have been met with strong opposition from local villagers. Construction work began recently but was quickly halted due to the vehement protest from the community.
The villagers convened a press conference today to voice their concerns.
They argue that the administration and the government are pushing ahead with these projects without holding a gram sabha, a requisite process for obtaining community consent.
They deem this action as illegal and vowed not to allow the arbitrary actions of the administration to continue unchecked.
Land has already been earmarked at three locations for the garbage plant. However, the construction has been interrupted following protests from the villagers.
The residents of Majhi Mahal Pargana have once again voiced their opposition to both the Motor Training School and Garbage Plant.
The villagers said that the community’s consensus should be required in any public development initiatives.
