JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day Capacity Building Programme for in-service teachers was held at DAV Public School, Bistupur, from September 18 to 19, 2024, with a focus on fine arts and modern pedagogical techniques.
The event, organized under the aegis of DAV CMC, New Delhi, included sessions led by experienced educators aimed at enhancing creative teaching skills and promoting student engagement through arts.
The workshop kicked off on September 18 with a session led by Mr. Nabin Panda, exploring how e-exhibitions transform the learning experience, enhancing both digital literacy and student creativity.
Other highlights of the first day included a talk by Mr. Amitabha Das on developing drawing skills, Mrs. Soma Mukherjee’s session on cave painting, and hands-on training in clay sculpting by Mr. Subrato Kumar Dutta.
Day two commenced with a session on Jharkhand’s folk art by Mr. Deep Ranjan, aimed at teaching cultural awareness through local traditions.
Mrs. Priya Kumari led a discussion on the benefits of craftwork for primary students, while a final session offered an outdoor watercolour study.
Training coordinator, Mrs. Pragya Singh, emphasized the importance of such programmes for enhancing imaginative teaching.
“Art education fosters creativity and cognitive development, helping students excel in both academic and personal spheres,” said Mrs. Singh.
Interactive sessions, including music therapy and folk music studies, further contributed to a holistic approach to education at the workshop.
Promoting Arts in Education
This programme reflected an increased focus on integrating performing arts into school curricula. Teachers explored various art forms, from clay sculpting to traditional Jharkhand folk music, all aimed at enhancing student engagement and creativity.
“Through these sessions, we aim to inspire teachers to use artistic mediums to enrich their students’ educational experiences,” said Mrs. Dipanvita Paul, a presenter at the event.
The two-day event concluded with feedback and reviews, ensuring participants left with actionable insights.
