JAMSHEDPUR – Yashoda Mahato, residing in Shukla village under the Rasiknagar Panchayat of Bodam block, has found a profitable venture in marigold cultivation alongside vegetable farming.

Starting her marigold farming endeavour in a 0.7-acre plot, she is now earning around Rs. 12,000 per month, which is a significant income in the rural setting.

This has not only elevated her economic status but also positioned her as a progressive farmer in the community.

Yashoda was initially informed about the garden development scheme by a friend from Bodam block, who observed her interest in farming.

Seeing the potential for profit and understanding the market demand for flowers, she decided to venture into flower cultivation.

The Horticulture Department provided the necessary saplings and also imparted essential training for marigold cultivation.

Currently, Yashoda is considering plans to expand her farming venture.

Demand for marigold flowers is consistent, given their importance in various cultural celebrations and events.

Yashoda states that she never faced difficulties in selling her produce, with a constant demand all year round.

She manages to harvest around 150-200 kg of flowers per week, generating a steady income of Rs. 3,000.

The economic and social transformation brought about by marigold farming has brought great satisfaction to Yashoda.

She expresses her happiness and continues to inspire other women farmers to take up flower cultivation.
