Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s statue installed amidst differences over naming of Dobo Bridge
Jamshedpur: In a dramatic turn of events in the ongoing dispute over the naming of Dobo bridge under Kapali OP of Chandil sub-division area of Kharsawan district, the local tribal community installed a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at the site on Sunday and also danced in the traditional manner on the beats of Mandar.
The Adivasi community members arrived at the disputed location armed with traditional weapons and performed a traditional dance on the beat of Mandar, marking the installation of the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The development took place amidst a raging dispute between the supporters of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the members of Kurmi community who want to name the bridge after Shaheed Raghunath Mahato.
The latter had earlier installed the statue of freedom fighter Shaheed Raghunath Mahato, the hero of Chuar rebellion.
The move had sparked a face-off between the two groups, which was eventually pacified by the administration.
However, on Sunday, the tribal community members took matters into their own hands and arrived at the disputed location to install the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at the site.
The members of the Kurmi community, however, were not present at the site.
The development has once again brought the dispute to the forefront and it remains to be seen what the next move of the members of Kurmi community would be.
The ongoing tussle over the naming of Dobo bridge has become a matter of concern for the administration and the locals alike.
