Ruckus in Sadar Hospital after infant dies, family alleges negligence

Infuriated over sudden death of an infant, the family members created a ruckus on Sadar Hospital Khas Mahal premises. They also complained to the Civil Surgeon against and rough behaviour of the doctor. An enquiry has been ordered and report is awaited.

Jamshedpur: A newborn infant died in Sadar Hospital in Khas Mahal Friday morning. The family members have accused the treating paediatrician of negligence and have demanded action against the guilty doctor. The family members also caused a big ruckus on the hospital premises.

The family said that the baby died because of negligence on the part of the treating doctor. They also accused the doctor of misbehaving with the family members.

The family members said that the doctors kept telling them that the baby’s health was improving. However, they charged, the doctors suddenly declared the child dead.

On August 24, Pawan Kumar, a resident of Jugsalai ME School Road, had admitted his wife to Sadar Hospital for delivery. His wife gave birth to a child. Due to deteriorating health, the child was kept in Baby Care wing of the hospital on the advice of doctors. However, on Friday, the baby died.

Soon after being told about the death of the baby, the family members created a ruckus accusing the hospital’s paediatrician of negligence. Father of the baby Pawan Kumar said that the doctors were constantly telling them that the child was improving. However, they suddenly declared the child dead.

Alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, he complained to the Civil Surgeon and demanded action against the doctor.

The relatives complained to the Civil Surgeon about the negligence in treatment and highhandedness of the doctor.

The Civil surgeon Dr AK Lal constituted an inquiry committee and ordered the committee to submit the report within 24 hours.

The Civil surgeon Dr AK Lal said that the infant was found to be underweight as soon as he was born. The baby was being nursed under the supervision of doctors.

He said that after the birth, when the mother was feeding the baby, the milk was getting stuck in the throat due to difficulty in breathing. Due to complications, the child died.

He said that the doctors tried a lot to save the child but they could not succeed.

Asked about the allegations of negligence and bad behaviour being levelled by the family, he said that an enquiry has been ordered and the report will be submitted within 24 hours. If the doctors are found guilty in the report, then strict action will be taken against them.
