Human traffickers have turned into a big menace for the children and girls of Jharkhand. A number of girls and children have been rescued, while several others run the risk of being targeted by human traffickers.
Ranchi: In a major development highlighting the seriousness of human trafficking issue in Jharkhand, 2 girls and 8 children were rescued in New Delhi from the clutches of human traffickers. They are now being brought back to Jharkhand and would be rehabilitated.
The 10 victims of human trafficking, now rescued and safe, are bring brought to Jharkhand and would be rehabilitated in the state.
The Chief Minister Hemant Soren is himself monitoring the situation.
The victims were freed with the help of Integrated Rehabilitation Center, New Delhi, Jharkhand Bhavan and Child Welfare Agency.
The rehabilitation-cum-resource center, New Delhi, directed by the Resident Commissioner, Shri Mastram Meena, is working to bring back all the children and young women who have been victimised by human trafficking, misguided or have escaped unsafely.
They are being rescued through continuous coordination with the Delhi Police, Child Welfare Association, New Delhi and Child Welfare Associations in the border states. The freed girls and children are being brought home safety.
Escape from clutches of traffickers
The young women and children rescued in Delhi were taken to New Delhi with the help of middlemen. Later, they sold by touts in lieu of money. Some of the children who work in different houses as house help were reportedly not treated well.
At the same time, the Delhi Police co-operated with the rescue team in the rescue of children.
Parents too are to blame
Nachiketa, Nodal Officer, Integrated Rehabilitation and Resource Center, New Delhi, said that a boy has been in a children’s home in Delhi for two years.
Nachiketa said that one boy did not have a father and his mother had remarried. Similarly the mother of a girl left her father and remarried. The girl’s father and mother twice handed her over to human traffickers.
The department has sent a letter to the District Social Welfare Officer informing him of the need to take special care of these children.
