Hemanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as new Assam CM
New Delhi: Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of Assam in a simple swearing in ceremony held at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium at Panjabari in Guwahati.
Himanta Biswa Sarma was chosen by the BJP leadership for CM’s post on Sunday. Soon after the party’s decision, Himanta Biswa Sarma had remarked: “How enormously blessed I feel Hon PM Sri @narendramodi for your faith in me. This is the biggest day in my life, and I so fondly cherish your generous affection. I assure you we shall leave no stone unturned to carry forward your vision of taking Assam, & NE to greater heights.”
Mr Sarma thanked the people of Assam and said: “With fragrance of Assam in my heart & love of my wonderful people in my veins, I offer my deepest gratitude to you all. I would not have been what I am had it not been for your pious faith in me. On this Day, I vow to work with & for each one of you with greater passion Assam.”
Mr. Sarma is an ex-Congressman. His decision to leave Congress and join BJP and then through sheer struggle and talent reach the top post of his state has now become anecdotal.
Himanta Biswa Sarma had revealed that he had gone to Rahul Gandhi to discuss urgent Assam’s issues, while Rahul Gandhi was busy feeding biscuits to his dog.
Later, he quit Congress party and joined BJP. Within a few years he has made it to the top post of Assam.
