Importance of West Direction

According to vaastu shastra every direction has its own quality and importance. So West has also its own importance and effects. The deity of West is Varuna. According to pavitra Vedas, Varuna is the rular and controller of moral conducts and the natural balance of the creation. He is known as ऋतस्य गोपाः (ritasya gopah) ,the lord of truth and eternal ethics. The related planet of this direction is Saturn. Saturn gives the the desired fruit of good deeds and positive activities.

In a house or on a plot, the West area should be made high, well-constructed and strong. There is an evidence of this tradition in India. In the Indus Valley civilisation, the West area was made high and strong. In every important site of this civilisation we find a strong and long citadel in the West area, whereas small houses and light construction in the Eastern areas. This evidence is very important for the theories related to this glorious Shastra.

We can choose this area for making bedrooms, normal rooms, study room as well as wash room. Normally attached washroom is not supposed to be positive as per vaastu beliefs, but nowadays this trend is very common in our society.

Anyway, the West direction is suitable for making any kind of bathroom. But one should keep this point in mind that there must not be any bathroom, and especially a commode in mid-west line as per magnetic compass indications. The areas close to north west direction are suitable for constructing toilets.

Generally, the most suitable area for kitchen is Southeast area or the areas close to it. But if this is not possible, one can make his kitchen in the west but never in the Southwest or the areas close to this.

The area close to midwest is good for making study rooms or a room for doing meditation or exercises as well as gyms. If there is no other good place for pooja room, then there definitely is no harm in making such a room in the west. (but avoid southwest as for as possible).

The area of northwest or the areas close to it, are nice option for a storage room and a garage.

The floor of this area may be kept high compared to the East for better effect. Metallic works should be done here. One can also decorate this area with electronic equipments and heavy furnitures.
