Operation Mask launched in Jamshedpur, Rs. 500 penalty for not wearing mask

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur police have launched an intensive Operation Mask in the entire district to thwart any possibility of second wave of coronavirus in the district.

The state government as well as the district administration is expecting a steep rise in coronavirus infection cases after the festival season. Seeing the threat level rising, the district police have started intensive drive, awareness campaigns as well as punitive measures to ensure that people start complying with the social distancing norms strictly.

In Jamshedpur itself, 24 check-points have been made and strict action is being taken against anyone who does not wear mask. There is a provision of on-spot fine collection too.

The administration is of the view that after the festivals, the number of infections is on the rise and may rise further. Although, for now, the number of new coronavirus patients has been falling sharply, but the administration expects that this trend may reverse too, if social distancing norms are not enforced.

The administration feels that many people might have gone to other states during festivals and after returning they must be checked before entering the district. That is why corona tests are being done at bus stands and railway stations.

The SSP Dr. M Tamil Vanan said that there is a possibility that coronavirus may spread fast after Chhath puja. Although, social distancing was attempting, yet people met others in large numbers and that may spell trouble. Many people who have come from and gone to other states and many people feel that coronavirus threat is over now. But this is a wrong notion as the virus can resurge again.

He said that Rs. 500 penalty will be collected if someone does not wear a mask.
