Tisco registered wards back in action

TNSS asks TWU leaders to fulfil promise of phased employment to registered wards

Jamshedpur: Wards of Tata Steel employees who have served for more than 25 years have once again become active. Their outfit Tisco Nibandhit Shramik Sangh has once again started its activities.

Led by Mohan Pandey, TNSS members gathered on TWU premises Thursday and appealed to the union leadership to ensure that wards are employed. They also submitted a memorandum addressed to the president of Tata Workers’ Union R Ravi Prasad.

Later, Mohan Pandey told media persons that the union president had promised to the registered wards in November 2019 that efforts would be made to ensure that they are employed in the company. But, he said, nothing has been done to fulfil this promise.

Other wards present at the site said that they are in a miserable condition during coronavirus pandemic and are virtually facing starvation.

They demanded that the TWU leadership fulfil its promises made in November 2019.

They said that union leaders had said that a consensus has been arrived at to employ them in a phased manner and employment process would be started soon.

However, TWU leadership has not responded officially ot their demands and claims. No union officeholder has made any comment on the development.

It may be not that earlier wards of employees used ot get registered once an employee completed 25 years in service. Such wards were recruited whenever a vacancy arose.

Before 90s, normally every registered ward would get an employment whenever his turn came. But later vacancies started declining an dit became difficult for the company to absorb them. This led to formation of TNSS and an agitation being launched by it.
