Hair salon operators demand financial help, compensation

Jamshedpur: Salon Operators of the city have urged the government to announce financial help for them and pay compensation to those barbers who have taken their lives due to financial problems caused by lockdown.

A delegation of barbers under the leadership of S K Prabhat, state general secretary of Naai Jagriti Sangh, today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commission of East Singhbhum.

Later, speaking to the media, S K Prabhat said that they have just learnt about one of their peers, Jodhi Thakur, 42, having ended his life by jumping into Swarnarekha river.

He said that as per information reaching him, Jodhi Thakur owned a salon in Panchavati Nagar in Sonari. Owing to the lockdown and his salon being closed for a long time he was unable to pay rent and he was forced to vacate the salon.

He said that Jodhi Thakur was going through financial crisis and two days back he jumped into Swarnarekha and has reportedly died.

Blaming the Jharkhand government he said that the government asked them to close their business, but has not extended any financial help for the salon operators.

He appealed to the government to pay Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the family of Jodhi Thakur as well as Shyam Thakur who had earlier ended his life due to financial problems. too.
