RANCHI – Amidst significant political discussions about leadership change, a vital meeting of ruling party MLAs was convened by Chief Minister Hemant Soren at his residence on January 3.
The meeting, lasting around two hours, saw MLAs unanimously backing CM Soren and the current government.
Discussions centered on the prevailing political climate and the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) actions, with calls for readiness against opposition conspiracies.
CM Soren rallied his party members, asserting their preparedness for any situation and the need to counter opposition strategies.
Notable figures like Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam were present, alongside 42 MLAs, while others joined via video conferencing.
Ministers and MLAs, post-meeting, firmly dismissed any leadership change rumors, reinforcing Soren’s position as Chief Minister.
Mithilesh Thakur, a minister, confidently stated the government’s intent to complete its term and win the 2024 assembly elections with a significant majority.
Former MLA Sarfaraz Ahmed, who recently resigned, cited personal reasons, dismissing any party-related motives.
Central General Secretary of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Vinod Pandey, reiterated the MLAs’ confidence in the government, dismissing the opposition’s claims as deliberate propaganda.
The meeting concluded with three Congress ministers leaving together, avoiding media interactions.
Experts analyzing the meeting’s aftermath suggest that while the leadership question seems settled for now, the ED’s actions have instilled a sense of apprehension within the ruling parties.

Vinod Pandey, JMM general secretary, clarified that there are no alternate plans (Plan B or Plan C) and discussed the response to the ED’s summons.
