27th All India Bhojpuri Sahitya Sammelan Ends; Highlights Language’s Richness

The 27th Akhil Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sahitya Sammelan concludes with a focus on language’s cultural significance and global presence.

JAMSHEDPUR -The 27th session of the Akhil Bharatiya Bhojpuri Sahitya Sammelan wrapped up on Sunday at Tulsi Bhawan, Bistupur.

Renowned speaker Dwivenu Tripathi emphasized the deep connections between Jharkhand, Bhojpuri, and the Magadha Empire during his Dr. Nirbhik Memorial Lecture.

He highlighted the uniqueness of Jharkhand, characterizing it through local customs and living conditions.

Tripathi discussed the inseparable link between Bhojpuri and Nagpuria, comparing their relationship to the dialectical differences between Bengali in West Bengal and Bangladesh.

He expressed concern over the removal of Bhojpuri’s official language status in Jharkhand, urging intellectual efforts for its reinstatement.

A groundbreaking dictionary merging Bhojpuri, Mundari, and Nagpuri languages is being developed by Acharya Hareram Chaitanya.

Senior journalist Duryodhan Singh lamented the lack of political support for Bhojpuri and the opposition it faces, even from Hindi-speaking scholars.

He argued for the adoption of Devanagari script for Bhojpuri, akin to Marathi and Nepali.

The session, presided over by AK Srivastava, stressed the need to promote Bhojpuri.

Dr. Gopal Thakur, Language Commission Chairman of Nepal, highlighted Bhojpuri’s recognition as an official language in Nepal and the development of its grammar.

Special speaker Gopal Ashk noted that Bhojpuri is part of the curriculum at Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Dr. Sarita Budhu from Mauritius led a seminar emphasizing the global reach of Bhojpuri and the necessity of a standard dictionary.

The seminar concluded with Dr. Brajbhushan Mishra being appointed as the new president of the Sammelan.

In the session, proposals were passed, including a request to the Indian government to recognize Bhojpuri in the eighth schedule and to reinstate its official language status in Jharkhand.

The Kavi Sammelan featured 45 poets reciting their works, showcasing the vibrancy of Bhojpuri literature.
