Jamshedpur Lawyers Question Jharkhand Bar Council on Election Freeze

Signature Campaign led by Advocates Sunil Bhowmick and Sudhir Pappu Highlights Four-Year Poll Delay

Jamshedpur lawyers pen letter to Jharkhand Bar Council, seeking clarity on stalled elections and the impact on legal community activities.

JAMSHEDPUR – The legal fraternity of Jamshedpur is raising eyebrows and questions.

Lawyers belonging to the Jamshedpur Bar Association have written a joint letter to the Chairman of the Jharkhand State Bar Council asking why elections have been put on hold for the last four years.

The letter, signed by over two hundred members, was also dispatched to various authoritative figures including the Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jamshedpur Civil Court, and the District Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum.

Citing the importance of a democratically elected committee, the letter highlighted that the current lack of elections has hampered multiple functions and amenities that benefit lawyers.

Specific issues include the absence of welfare trust support for deceased members’ families, advocates’ identity cards, and the proliferating number of ‘fake members’ in the legal community.

A signature campaign, helmed by Advocates Sunil Kumar Bhowmick and Sudhir Kumar Pappu, has been launched to accentuate the urgency of the situation.

The campaign aims to inform the Chairman of the daily hardships that lawyers face due to the lack of a democratically elected body.

As India stands as the world’s largest democracy, the absence of an elected body in such an important institution poses a paradox that the legal community in Jamshedpur finds hard to digest.

With these questions put forth, all eyes are now on the Jharkhand State Bar Council as the community awaits clarity on when and how the elections will be reinitiated.
