City police crack minor murder case, step-father arrested

Police acted fast and solved this case within 48 hours: SSP

Jamshedpur: The SSP of Jamshedpur Dr. M Tamil Vanan today confirmed the earlier reports that the city police have cracked the case relating to murder of a minor in Sonari. He told media today that the step-father of the deceased child was the lone perpetrator and he committed the crime alone.

In a press conference today, Dr. Vanan said that Supriyo Ghosh, step-father of the child did everything alone and he had no accomplices.

He said that after the death of the deceased child’s father, her mother had married Supriyo Ghosh.

He said that the accused took the child out on August 31 on the pretext of walking her around, offered her a chocolate and then a little further from Domuhani on the banks of Swarnarekha river he killed the child by pressing her neck.

He kept pressing her neck even while she kept calling him ‘papa’.

Later, he said, Supriyo drowned her into river to ensure that she had died. When he was convinced that the child is not alive, he went out to drink liquor.

Earlier, the Chief Minister Hemant Soren had expressed shock at the reports of a child being killed and had asked the DC of East Singhbhum to ensure justice in the case.
