Key Points:
- Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti holds mass signature campaign at Sakchi, Jamshedpur
- Saryu Roy demands punctuality, better facilities and accountability from rail administration
- Committee warns of intensified agitation if problems remain unresolved
JAMSHEDPUR – The Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti ran a large-scale signature campaign at Sakchi on Monday as part of a public movement against persistent train delays, administrative insensitivity and what organisers described as a dictatorial attitude of the rail authorities.
A large number of rail passengers and local residents participated in the campaign. They registered their support by signing the petition. The event drew widespread attention from the public in Jamshedpur.
Saryu Roy attended as the chief guest. He said passenger grievances were being continuously ignored and that this would no longer be tolerated. He demanded that the rail administration ensure punctual train operations, provide better passenger amenities and fix accountability.
The Samiti’s campaign is part of a broader agitation against train delays that has been building in Jamshedpur for weeks. Roy had earlier led a sit-in protest at Tatanagar station over the same issue. On the other hand, the railway administration has so far not provided a satisfactory written response, according to earlier reports.
Committee members warned during the campaign that the movement would be intensified if the problems were not resolved soon. Moreover, they made it clear that the interests of rail passengers would not be compromised under any circumstances.
The punctuality of passenger trains has been a key demand raised repeatedly by Roy and other leaders. The railway’s response has been described as unsatisfactory by agitating groups. In a related development, the rail review meeting at Ghatshila had also taken up the issue of train delays and pending railway projects.
