DEO Ananya Mittal Oversees Home Voting Initiative for Elderly and Disabled Voters

Encouraging Participation and Emphasizing the Importance of Every Vote in Strengthening Democracy

In the 49-Jamshedpur West Assembly Constituency, District Election Officer Ananya Mittal personally took charge of monitoring the home voting initiative, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a heartening display of commitment to inclusive democracy, District Election Officer Ananya Mittal has taken the lead in overseeing the home voting initiative for elderly and disabled voters in the 49-Jamshedpur West Assembly Constituency.

With the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on the horizon, the Election Commission of India has introduced this provision to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

Mittal emphasized the significance of every vote in strengthening democracy and appealed to the family members of elderly voters to take 25 additional people with them to the polling booth on May 25th.

Accompanied by a team of officials, including Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar, DTO Dhananjay, Home Voting Nodal Mujaid Ansari, and District Public Relations Officer Panchanan Oraon, Mittal personally visited the homes of elderly voters, such as Abha Rani Panda from Subhash Colony, Dimna Road, and Bedamo Devi from Bankuthnagar, Road No. 3, Mango.

The initiative has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response, with an impressive 95 percent of the home voting electorate exercising their right to vote within just three days of the process commencing.

During his visits, Mittal not only ensured the smooth execution of the home voting process but also took the opportunity to boost the enthusiasm of the elderly voters, honoring them with rose flowers and voter coffee mugs as tokens of appreciation for their role as vigilant sentinels of democracy.

The home voting process, which spans across two phases from May 14 to 19 and May 21 to 22, is not limited to the 49-Jamshedpur West Assembly Constituency alone.

Voters aged 85 and above, as well as those with at least 40 percent disability, across all six assembly constituencies in the district, will have the opportunity to cast their votes through postal ballots via home voting.

A total of 226 voters in the district had applied for home voting, reflecting the need for such inclusive measures to ensure that every voice is heard in the democratic process.

The success of the home voting initiative in the 49-Jamshedpur West Assembly Constituency serves as a model for other constituencies to follow, demonstrating the importance of providing accessible and convenient voting options for elderly and disabled voters.

As the Lok Sabha elections 2024 draw closer, initiatives like these reaffirm the commitment of the Election Commission of India and district officials like Ananya Mittal to upholding the principles of inclusive democracy and ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in shaping the future of the nation.
