Jamshedpur: An attempted robbery in the Burmamines police station area on Sunday night was foiled after alert local residents caught two suspects and handed them over to the police.
According to the victim, Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Baridih, he had stopped by the roadside when two men arrived on a scooter and allegedly attacked him with a machete. The accused reportedly robbed him of cash and then attempted to snatch his mobile phone.
The victim raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents. Locals rushed to the spot, overpowered both suspects before they could escape, and informed the police.
A team from Burmamines Police Station reached the scene and took both accused into custody. Police recovered the machete allegedly used in the crime and also seized the scooter used by the suspects. Both accused are currently being interrogated, and further investigation is underway.
Series of Criminal Incidents Raise Safety Concerns
The latest incident comes amid a string of criminal activities reported across Jamshedpur over the past three days, raising concerns over public safety.
Despite heightened police vigilance following the Himanshu Singh murder case, incidents of robbery, snatching, machete attacks, and firing have continued to surface. On Saturday night, a brother and sister returning from a birthday celebration in Sidhgora were targeted in a snatching incident. On Friday, Sanjay Tandi was shot in Ramjanam Nagar under Kadma police station limits. Earlier, on Thursday, Ashim Banerjee was allegedly robbed at machete-point in the Telco area.
The repeated incidents have raised serious questions about the city’s law and order situation.
