SERAIKELA – A woman narrowly survived after jumping off a railway overbridge in the Kandra police station area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Saturday.

The woman leapt from the railway overbridge without warning. However, a thick deposit of coal dust on the ground below absorbed the impact of her fall. She sustained internal injuries but escaped with her life.

Eyewitnesses who were passing by at the time spotted her immediately after the jump. On the other hand, had the coal dust not been present, the fall could have proved fatal, according to locals.

Bystanders wasted no time in reaching the spot. They lifted her and transported her to Kandra police station by auto-rickshaw. Meanwhile, police promptly arranged for her to be sent to a hospital for urgent medical attention.

Officers at the station attempted to determine her identity. However, the woman declined to share any personal details. She refused to disclose her name, address, or any other information about herself.

In similar incidents in the Jamshedpur region, survivors of bridge jumps have often been rescued by alert passersby. In addition, the Seraikela-Kharsawan district has seen a number of such distress cases in recent times.

Police have registered the case and are currently investigating. They are working to establish the woman’s identity. Moreover, officers are also trying to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
