JAMSHEDPUR – Authorities carried out a large-scale crackdown on illegal liquor production and sale in Jamshedpur’s urban areas.
Acting on the directive of the Assistant Commissioner of Excise, teams raided sensitive areas known for illicit alcohol. In Sitaramdera’s Harijan Basti, officers stormed the house of Durga Sahu. They recovered around 360 bottles of fake foreign liquor and 47 liters of beer. The stock was packed in bags and ready for supply. However, alerted by locals, Durga Sahu escaped through another door.
Police confirmed that a case under relevant Excise Act provisions has been lodged against Sahu. Vehicles at the site were reportedly blocked by crowds, which allowed the accused to flee into the dense settlement.
Shortly after, a joint raid was launched in Dhatkidih’s Harijan Basti under Bistupur police station. Officers unearthed a mini factory run by Munna Ghosh inside a shack. The place contained materials for making counterfeit foreign liquor. Seized items included empty bottles, stickers, caps, corks, spirit, caramel for coloring, and flavored additives. Bottled counterfeit liquor was also recovered from the spot.
In addition, police seized 155 liters of illegal foreign liquor and 600 liters of mahua spirit from the premises. Due to the narrow lanes and crowded location, Munna Ghosh also managed to escape.
Officials confirmed that prosecutions are being registered against both accused under excise law. Raids are expected to continue in other sensitive locations of the city.
