JAMSHEDPUR – A man identified as Rahul Bhuiyan was beaten to death in Chhaya Nagar under Sitaramdera police station late Thursday night after being accused of theft.
According to police, Bhuiyan, who worked as a cart-puller, had stepped out of his house around 1:30 a.m. for toilet use. At that time, neighbor Shivam Sharma and several others allegedly assaulted him with rods and sticks, calling him a thief. Bhuiyan collapsed unconscious at the spot.
His family informed the police, and officers rushed him to MGM Hospital, where he was declared dead early Friday morning around 4:00 a.m. After the news, relatives created a stir at the hospital demanding arrests.
However, station in-charge Niranjan Kumar and his team reached the site and arrested accused Shivam Sharma. He was taken into custody for interrogation. Police sources confirmed that the deceased had earlier been to jail in other cases.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing and more suspects are under the scanner.
