Six Dacoits Arrested in Bokaro for Birni Village Robbery

BOKARO – Police have arrested six dacoits in connection with the armed robbery at Birni village in Nawadih police station area on the night of August 17-18. The arrests followed an investigation by a Special Investigation Team formed by Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh.

The gang, comprising 8 to 10 armed criminals, had looted the house of Dhaneshwar Sahu. During raids, police seized two country-made pistols, one carbine-type gun, one country-made katta, six live cartridges, 10 grams of melted gold, 470 grams of melted silver, and a Scorpio vehicle.

Among those arrested were five dacoits from Dhanbad and a jeweller from Nawadih, identified as Mukesh Sonar, who had been purchasing stolen ornaments from the gang.

SP Harvinder Singh stated that the gang’s mastermind was Vikram Kumar of Bhuli, Dhanbad. His accomplices included Dharmendra Rai, Ravi Kumar Mahato, Hashim Sheikh, and Kisan Pandit. The group carried out the robbery at Sahu’s residence at gunpoint. Singh further revealed that the same gang was behind robberies in East Basuria, Dhanbad, on July 25 and in Nawadih in October last year.

According to police, the gang is highly professional and specializes in dacoity. Efforts are underway to arrest other absconding members. Records show Vikram Kumar has three prior cases registered against him at Katras and Tetulmari police stations in Dhanbad, while Hashim Sheikh has cases at Nawadih and Chandan Kiyari police stations in Bokaro.
