JAMSHEDPUR – Water supply was completely disrupted in Jugsalai on Saturday after a transformer at the local treatment plant burned out.

The incident occurred around noon at ME School Road near Shiv Ghat, where the transformer of the water treatment plant was damaged. As a result, supply stopped, leaving 7,000 registered connections and nearly 50,000 residents without water.

Jugsalai Nagar Parishad Executive Officer Sandeep Paswan informed the water and sanitation department. Assistant Engineer Mahendra Baita assured him that the faulty transformer would be replaced with a standby unit. Officials hoped the supply would be restored by night.

Residents managed with stored water in the morning but faced severe shortages later in the day. Many carried water from outside, some depended on neighbors with private borewells, and others queued at handpumps. Most households, however, rely entirely on the municipal water system.

The densely populated Jugsalai area also hosts a wholesale market, drawing people from across Kolhan. The water disruption added to the challenges for both residents and visitors.
