JAMSHEDPUR – Anti-Corruption Bureau officials have arrested revenue employee S Barman red-handed while accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe in Seraikela-Chaibasa subdivision.

The accused was posted at the local revenue office. He demanded money for entering names in online register number 2. However, the complainant informed ACB about the corrupt practice instead of paying.

Rajesh Hembram, a tribal landowner, had filed a complaint earlier. He alleged that his land documents were being manipulated at the circle office. Moreover, officials were creating deliberate complications in his paperwork.

Investigation revealed systematic corruption in the land registration process. Barman was specifically demanding Rs 10,000 for online entry work. Additionally, he threatened to delay the process without payment.

The landowner immediately contacted ACB Jamshedpur about the bribe demand. Officials took the matter seriously and planned a trap operation. Furthermore, they coordinated with the complainant to catch the accused.

ACB team laid a careful trap to nab the corrupt employee. They provided marked currency notes to the complainant for the operation. Meanwhile, surveillance was arranged to record the entire transaction.

Barman was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money on Saturday. The arrest took place at the circle office premises. However, he was immediately taken to Jamshedpur for detailed interrogation.

Officials are questioning the arrested employee about other corrupt practices. They suspect involvement of additional staff members in the scam. Besides, investigation continues to identify the complete network of corruption.

The case highlights ongoing issues in land record management systems. Tribal landowners often face harassment from revenue officials seeking bribes. Moreover, online systems have not eliminated corruption as expected.

ACB sources indicate that Barman will be produced before court soon. Legal proceedings under corruption charges will begin immediately. Furthermore, departmental action against the employee is also expected.
