JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel’s Noamundi, Joda East and Khondband mines received prestigious star rating awards from the Ministry of Mines for sustainable mining practices at a ceremony in Jaipur.

The Ministry of Mines honored three Tata Steel facilities on Monday. The ceremony took place at Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur. Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy attended as chief guest.

Noamundi Iron Mine achieved the coveted 7-star rating. This makes it only the third mine in India to receive this honor. The achievement marks a historic milestone since the awards began in 2016.

No mine had previously received a 7-star rating in the program’s history. The recognition acknowledges exceptional efforts in scientific and sustainable mining practices. Noamundi has consistently earned 5-star ratings since the awards started.

Jorda East Mine received its fourth consecutive 5-star rating. The facility has maintained this standard for multiple years. Meanwhile, Khondbond Iron and Manganese Mine earned its first 5-star rating.

The star rating system evaluates mining operations comprehensively. It considers operational efficiency, environmental protection measures, and safety standards. The system also assesses community engagement and sustainable development efforts.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma joined the ceremony. Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey also attended. The event highlighted government recognition of mining excellence.

Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, General Manager OMQ, received the award for Noamundi. D. Vijayendra, Chief of Noamundi, accompanied him. Rajesh Kumar, Chief of Jorda, accepted the honor for Jorda East.

G.V. Satyanarayana, Chief of Khondband, received the award for his facility. Avnish Kumar, Chief Planning OMQ, joined him. The representatives expressed pride in their achievements.

Sandeep Kumar, Vice President Raw Materials, praised the recognition. “Tata Steel remains committed to innovative and responsible mining practices,” he stated. The company focuses on mineral conservation and environmental protection.

The executive emphasized community development priorities. “We aim to build a green and inclusive future,” Kumar added. The awards validate the company’s sustainability commitment.
