Employees Protest Over Wage and Retirement Demands

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand University and College Employees Federation staged a successful strike on Friday, disrupting activities in all Kolhan University-affiliated colleges. Employees protested for the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission, ACP-MACP benefits, and an increase in the retirement age to 62.

Led by General Secretary Vishwambhar Yadav, the strike saw active participation from employees across the state. Yadav warned, “If our legitimate demands are ignored, we will resort to an indefinite strike, holding the administration accountable.”

Strike Affects Multiple Colleges

The strike impacted institutions such as Jamshedpur Co-operative College, LBSM College, and Women’s Graduate College, among others. Academic and administrative operations remained at a standstill, affecting thousands of students.

Meanwhile, employees of colleges in Chaibasa, Chakradharpur, and Ghatshila also joined the agitation. Local branches organized their own events to express solidarity with the cause.

Leadership and Solidarity

The movement gained momentum under the leadership of Vishwambhar Yadav and contributions from regional leaders like Chandan Kumar and Manmohan Gandhi. At Jamshedpur Co-operative College, prominent attendees included Vishwanath Kumar and Anita Singh.

As the strike progresses, the federation’s members remain committed to advancing their cause, emphasizing the importance of unity among employees.
