JAMSHEDPUR – A dramatic incident unfolded in Baridih Market of Sidhgora when shopkeepers united to catch an alleged extortionist, R Giri, after he attempted to demand money from a local trader. Following a brief chase and altercation, the suspect was handed over to the police.
The accused, a resident of Birsa Nagar, reportedly tried to extort money from trader Mithilesh Sahu. When Sahu resisted and raised an alarm, fellow shopkeepers quickly intervened, chasing down and apprehending Giri. According to witnesses, the accused had been accompanied by four or five associates, who fled the scene.
Prior Offenses and Drug Use Alleged
Shopkeepers stated that Giri had frequented the area for extortion and often consumed drugs nearby. “He has caused trouble here before, and this time, we decided to act,” said one shopkeeper. After being caught, Giri was beaten by the agitated crowd before being handed over to the authorities.
Police Begin Investigation
Law enforcement officials confirmed they have begun an investigation into the matter and are probing Giri’s involvement in similar incidents. The quick action by the shopkeepers has been acknowledged as crucial in deterring such activities.
