MEDININAGAR – Sikh community members celebrated Lohri with great enthusiasm on Monday evening, organizing events at Belwatika Gurudwara and Namdhari Gurudwara near Nawatoli Chowk. The festive celebrations included spiritual and cultural activities that brought the community together.
The evening began with a special diwan, where the Guru Granth Sahib was adorned, and Shabad-Kirtan was performed by a local Ragi Jatha led by Giani Sunder Singh. Devotees participated in traditional rituals, including circumambulating the sacred bonfire (Pugga), while praying for peace, prosperity, and happiness.
Traditional Ceremonies Highlight Festivities
The celebrations continued late into the night with vibrant participation. The event included performances of devotional hymns and rituals involving the sacred bonfire. Community members danced to the rhythm of band music around the burning Pugga, adding a joyful atmosphere.
Prasad, consisting of sweets, Tilkut, and Rewari, was distributed to mark the spirit of togetherness. Attendees exchanged warm greetings and reflected on the significance of Lohri, which marks the start of the Sikh New Year.
Significant Participation by Community Members
Prominent figures, including Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha Committee’s President Satbir Singh Raja and members Gurveer Singh Golu, Sardar Upendra Singh, Harjit Singh Kaku, and others, were present. Women and children actively participated, adding to the inclusivity and vibrancy of the celebrations.
The gathering witnessed a mix of devotional and cultural activities, leaving an indelible mark on those present. The community emphasized the importance of preserving traditions while fostering unity.
