JAMSHEDPUR – Dr. Mahavir Ram, founder of suicide prevention organization Jeevan and former NIT Principal, passed away at TMH on Thursday.
The 86-year-old engineering veteran was admitted to TMH’s CCU on Wednesday. His health deteriorated despite treatment.
Distinguished Academic Career
Ram earned his engineering degree from BIT Sindri. He later achieved a gold medal at Sheffield University.
He served as Principal of NIT Adityapur’s Metallurgy Department. His leadership enhanced the institution’s academic standards.
Legacy of Service
Through Jeevan, Ram aided countless individuals facing mental health challenges. The organization became a beacon of hope.
He actively participated in Rajasthan Maitri Sangh and ASIA. “His compassion saved many lives,” noted a Jeevan spokesperson.
Final Journey
The funeral procession began from CH Area residence. Community members gathered at Parvati Ghat.
Ram leaves behind his son Deepak Dokania and two daughters. His work continues to inspire mental health advocates.
