Gunfire Erupts at Kujama Truck Loading Point in Jharia Amidst Power Struggle

Key Points:

  • Eighteen rounds fired at Kujama loading point; no casualties reported.
  • Incident occurred in police presence, causing panic among workers.
  • Heavy police deployment in response to escalating tensions.

JHARIA – A violent confrontation erupted at the Kujama truck loading point in Lodna area, with 18 rounds fired during a power struggle. Despite the intensity, no injuries have been reported.

The incident unfolded in the presence of law enforcement, leading to widespread panic among the labor force. Supporters of the JMS Bacha Singh faction had previously halted operations at the loading point for a week, citing concerns over pollution and displacement. Sources said their actions were aimed at asserting dominance in the area.

Escalating Tensions

Efforts to resume truck loading were met with resistance from a coalition comprising the Janata Shramik Sangh, CPI(ML), and Bihar Colliery Kamgar Union (BCKU). This opposition culminated in unidentified individuals opening fire. In response, police forces from Dhanbad, Tisra, Alkadih, Baliapur, and Lodna outposts were dispatched to the scene. The area remains under heavy police surveillance due to the prevailing tension.

Background of the Conflict

The Kujama loading point has been a hotspot for disputes over manual versus mechanized loading methods. Local labor unions have been advocating for manual loading to secure employment for displaced residents. In December 2024, JMS supporters intensified their protests, including road blockades, to press their demands. Despite multiple discussions, the management has yet to reach a resolution, leading to continued unrest.

Recent Developments

In a related incident earlier this year, clashes at Kujama prompted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to fire eight rounds to control the situation. These recurring conflicts underscore the deep-seated issues surrounding employment and operational control at the loading point.
