MEDININAGAR – The Municipal Corporation’s anti-encroachment drive sparked controversy after the demolition of a Shiva temple’s boundary wall led to a five-hour road blockade.
The campaign aimed at clearing illegal structures began early morning. “We found numerous shops encroaching upon drains and roads,” a civic official reported.
Moreover, several shopkeepers had extended their establishments onto public spaces. The team used bulldozers to remove unauthorized projections.
Religious Sentiment
The situation became tense after the demolition of the temple wall. Furthermore, various Hindu organizations immediately gathered at the site.
Meanwhile, VHP, RSS, and Bajrang Dal members joined the protests. The blockade started around 4 PM and continued until 9 PM.
Administrative Response
CO Amardeep Singh Balhotra reached the protest site promptly. Additionally, local police maintained vigilance throughout the demonstration.
However, protesters demanded immediate reconstruction of the temple wall. Assistant Municipal Commissioner Vishwajeet Mahato later accepted their written petition.
In addition, the anti-encroachment drive had faced resistance from shopkeepers earlier. The narrow roads had been causing traffic congestion.
On the other hand, traders claimed unnecessary harassment. The situation normalized only after officials assured appropriate action.
