SERAIKELA – A truck driver from Telangana, identified as Gopi, died on Monday night due to suspected cold exposure in Chouka, Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
The incident occurred when Gopi, who had brought poultry from Telangana’s Khammam district to Chouka, was sitting in his truck after dinner. His companion, Shakeel, reported that Gopi felt unwell, collapsed suddenly, and lost consciousness.
Gopi was rushed to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Medical professionals suspect severe cold exposure as the cause of death, but the exact reason will only be confirmed after the postmortem report.
The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will undergo a postmortem on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the number of patients suffering from cold-related ailments has been steadily rising in hospitals across the region. Authorities urge residents to take precautions as temperatures continue to plummet.
