MLA Saryu Roy Inspects Site, Criticizes Administration’s Inaction

Key Points:

– MLA Saryu Roy accuses administration of misleading NGT
– Locals suffer health hazards, demand immediate resolution

JAMSHEDPUR – Despite commitments made by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (Jamshedpur Akshes) and the district administration to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), no concrete action has been taken to resolve the garbage dumping issue at Sonari Marine Drive. Fires reported over the past few days have aggravated the situation, causing distress to local residents.

On receiving complaints, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy visited the dumping site. He found a section of the garbage pile ablaze, which was promptly extinguished with water. Residents informed Roy that similar incidents had occurred previously, but promises made by former health ministers and local authorities to resolve the issue remain unfulfilled.

NGT Orders Ignored, Public Frustration Grows

Roy, during his tenure as MLA of Jamshedpur East, had taken the matter to NGT through advocate Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay. Following NGT’s intervention, the district administration assured a quick resolution. However, the recent fire incidents highlight continued neglect.

Residents reported severe health concerns caused by the persistent smoke. Many have been forced to endure hazardous living conditions. The MLA expressed dissatisfaction, stating that he would escalate the matter back to NGT.

Demand for Action and Accountability

Roy accused Jamshedpur Akshes and the district administration of failing to act responsibly. He emphasized that a contempt case should be filed against officials for violating NGT’s orders.

“The administration’s inaction has put residents’ lives at risk. We will ensure accountability through NGT,” Roy affirmed during his visit.

The situation has sparked growing frustration among locals, who demand immediate and effective steps to eliminate the long-standing garbage problem.
