JAMSHEDPUR – The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce & Industries (FJCCI) has formally requested Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to approve halts at Rourkela for the Howrah-Mumbai Duronto Express and Howrah-Pune Duronto Express.

In a letter dated November 30, 2024, FJCCI emphasized the significant inconvenience faced by passengers from Jharkhand and Odisha due to the absence of halts for these premium trains at Rourkela.

Rourkela is a crucial junction connecting eastern India to key industrial and metropolitan cities.

According to FJCCI, adding halts will cater to a large commuter base in the region, especially benefitting industries and general passengers.

Regional Impact of the Proposal

FJCCI pointed out that several passengers from Odisha and Jharkhand frequently travel to Mumbai and Pune for business and educational purposes.

The proposed halts will reduce travel burdens and promote economic activities between these regions.

"Ensuring halts at Rourkela will serve thousands of passengers and boost connectivity for the eastern corridor," stated FJCCI President Pawan Mahrotra.
