What Overseas Election Results Mean for Indians: Unveiling Global Connections

Exploring Overseas Leadership and Indian Roots: How Global Politics Resonates with India’s People

Global election outcomes featuring leaders of Indian origin stir emotional connections, yet they seldom influence India’s economy or governance.

What does Kamala Harris’ recent loss in the US elections mean to Indians? Or Rishi Sunak paving his path to the office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2022 meant to us other than the coming into limelight the news of him being the son-in-law of Infosys founder Narayan Murthy. A person with Indian origin.

Vivek Ramaswamy, an American entrepreneur, was chosen along with Elon Musk by the soon-to-hold-office of President, Mr. Donald Trump to review the government spending policies. He would volunteer and his participation would not involve or affect any aspect of the Indian economy system.

Do they really have any relevance to us?

Fiji is an island Pacific country where in the 1800 and 1900 large numbers of people from South Asia were imported as indentured laborers. Indian Fijians who account for 37% of the total population of the country. These laborers didn’t return back and accepted citizenship of the country. Fiji was led by Indo-Fijian in 1999 by Mahendra Chaudhary as their Prime Minister.

Like Fiji, Guyana is another South American country whose entire population count has the contribution of 40% Indian origin people. Recent visit of our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi made headlines in both the countries and beyond. This country too has seen prime ministers and presidents of Indian descent in this and the preceding century.

Does this affect the Indians staying in India?

The answers to these questions are in a smaller fraction as yes. For those whose loved ones stay in these countries maybe it is a celebration to get a country head from their community. It is basically a personal relationship or emotion coming into play.

The same theory goes for those who work for multinational countries and decide on settling there. For example, Sundar Pichai who completed his school education and attained the engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur is the current CEO of Google. The taxes collected from the common people helps in funding of these government colleges. But now that he works and stays overseas he owes no taxes to the Indian government.

When Google invests in India it’s not driven by any patriotic sentiment but the motive of profit earning works behind every venture.

The world is now one global space to live and crossing the borders has stayed no big deal. At these times it’s absolutely a private affair. It’s a person’s individual choice to live and spend life in accordance to one’s own will.

Every country and each individual wants to live and leave behind a peaceful and safe earth for the future generations. Any country’s election results analysis should be discussed regardless of their ethnicity and nativity.
