Maiyan Samman And Electricity Bill Waiver Worked Big Time for JMM

JMM Dominates Tribal Seats, BJP Left with Just Three

Key Points:

  • JMM wins 11 out of 14 seats in the Kolhan division.

  • Prominent BJP leaders’ spouses and children face defeats.

  • Welfare schemes like free electricity played a key role in JMM’s success.

JAMSHEDPUR – Marshalling its resources just in time, did the trick for JMM in the Jharkhand Assembly elections. The party was quick to realize the hidden potential of the Maiyan Samman Yojana and power tariff waiver promise and it reaped the dividends in a big way.

In the recent Jharkhand Assembly elections, JMM-led INDIA alliance secured a landslide victory, claiming over 50 seats.

The elections marked a resounding comeback for the JMM, particularly in tribal-dominated constituencies.

Tribal Seats Cement JMM’s Dominance

JMM swept 27 out of 28 tribal-reserved seats, further solidifying its influence.

In contrast, BJP, which had won Khunti and Torpa in 2019, lost both seats this time.

In Kolhan, JMM claimed 11 out of 14 seats, leaving BJP with only three.

Even stalwarts like Arjun Munda and Madhu Koda failed to ensure victories for their spouses, while Champai Soren could not save his son from defeat.

Major Victories and Losses

In Chaibasa, JMM’s Deepak Birua defeated BJP’s Geeta Koda by a massive margin.

Congress’s Sonaram Sinku retained his seat by defeating Geeta Koda, wife of former CM Madhu Koda.

In Ichagarh, JMM’s Savita Mahato secured re-election, while Kharsawan saw Dasrath Gagrai claim his third consecutive win.

In Potka, Arjun Munda’s wife Meera Munda was defeated by Sanjeev Sardar of JMM.

The high-profile Jamshedpur West seat saw JDU’s Saryu Roy upset Health Minister Banna Gupta of Congress.

JMM’s Strategies and Star Power

JMM’s welfare schemes, including the "Maiya Samman Yojana" and 200-unit electricity bill waiver, played a pivotal role in swaying rural voters.

"While BJP relied on star campaigners like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, it was JMM’s Kalpana Soren who stole the show," noted a political analyst.

BJP’s campaign slogan, "United We Win, Divided We Fall," failed to counter the INDIA alliance’s strategies.

Ultimately, the BJP was limited to just three seats in Kolhan, while JMM celebrated a historic victory.
