Saryu Roy Urges Jharkhand Finance Minister To Fund MGM Hostel Repairs

Jamshedpur East MLA seeks special allocation for Jamshedpur medical college accommodation

Key Points:

• Saryu Roy appeals for MGM hostel renovation funds

• Videos highlight dire conditions at medical college

• Health minister’s promises remain unfulfilled, says MLA

JAMSHEDPUR – Jharkhand MLA Saryu Roy has requested Finance Minister Dr. Rameshwar Oraon to allocate special funds for repairing the dilapidated hostel at MGM Medical College in Jamshedpur.

In a letter to Dr. Oraon, Roy emphasized the urgent need for renovation at the state’s second-ranking medical institution.

"The videos clearly show the inhuman conditions at MGM College hostel," Roy stated.

He highlighted that only top NEET scorers secure admissions to this prestigious institution.

"It’s shameful that these bright students face such hardships while pursuing their education," Roy added.

Repeated pleas for action

The MLA noted that students have repeatedly voiced their concerns to authorities, including the college principal and health minister.

"Despite the health minister’s assurances after inspecting the hostel a year ago, no improvements have been made," Roy revealed.

He pointed out that the college and hospital are located in the health minister’s constituency.

Funding options proposed

Roy suggested two potential funding options for the hostel repairs.

"Either allocate funds from the ‘Contingency Fund’ or direct the health secretary to propose fund transfers from unused departmental allocations," he advised.

An anonymous second-year medical student expressed their frustration: "We’re struggling to focus on our studies while constantly worrying about our safety."

Impact on students and education

The hostel’s deteriorating condition has forced many students to evacuate the premises.

Recent heavy rainfall has exacerbated the situation, with water seeping into the building.

The crisis raises concerns about the future of medical education in Jharkhand.

A local resident commented, "It’s unfortunate that our future doctors have to live in such conditions."
