Renowned Chhau Flutist Sunil Dubey Passes Away at 64

Saraikela mourns loss of multitalented artist and Padma Shri’s brother

JAMSHEDPUR – The artistic community in Saraikela is grieving the loss of Sunil Dubey, a renowned Chhau flutist and multitalented artist.

Dubey passed away at his residence on Tuesday morning at the age of 64.

The deceased was the younger brother of Padma Shri Pandit Gopal Prasad Dubey.

Sunil Dubey had gained national and international recognition for his contributions to Chhau art.

Moreover, he was celebrated for his mastery over flute and percussion instruments.

Interestingly, Dubey was also a student of famous Ghazal singer Anup Jalota.

His diverse musical interests set him apart in the artistic community.

Meanwhile, the news of his demise has deeply affected Saraikela’s performing artists.

Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, patron of the Saraikela Chhau Artist Association, expressed his sorrow.

He described Dubey’s death as an irreparable loss to the local art world.

Furthermore, Chaudhary highlighted Dubey’s long-standing support for Chhau artists.

The deceased had received an A-grade award from All India Radio.

Additionally, he was honored with a Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture.

On the other hand, young Chhau artist Rajatendu Rath also shared his grief.

He stated that Saraikela Chhau art had lost one of its most invaluable artists.

The Saraikela Chhau Artists Association has extended condolences to Dubey’s family.
