JAMSHEDPUR – Doctors at MGM Hospital launch indefinite strike, protesting the murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The medical community in Jamshedpur has been deeply shaken by the recent tragedy in Kolkata.
In response to the brutal murder and rape of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital, healthcare professionals at MGM Hospital have initiated an indefinite strike.
This protest action reflects a nationwide outpouring of anger and concern over the incident.
All doctors‘ organizations in Jamshedpur have united in this demonstration, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
The striking doctors have put forward two primary demands: enhanced security measures for medical staff and justice for the victim’s family.
As a result of the protest, Outpatient Department (OPD) services at MGM Hospital have been suspended indefinitely.
While emergency services are currently operational, the protesting doctors have issued a warning that these critical services may also be halted if their demands are not addressed promptly.
Dr. Amita Sharma, a senior physician at MGM Hospital, stated, "We cannot work in an environment where our safety is constantly at risk. This tragic incident in Kolkata has highlighted the urgent need for better security measures in hospitals across the country."
The situation has been further complicated by the Kolkata High Court’s recent order for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case.
This development has intensified the doctors’ unrest, as they view it as a necessary step towards ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation.
The strike has already begun to impact patient care in Jamshedpur, with many residents expressing concern about access to medical services during this period of protest.
Local authorities are reportedly in discussions with the striking doctors to find a resolution that addresses their concerns while minimizing disruption to essential healthcare services.
